CHILD PROTECTION & SAFEGUARDING

image.pngICS believes that a child or young person should never experience abuse of any kind, We have a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children and young people and to keep them safe.  We are committed to practices that protect them.

If a child is in immediate danger (risk of serious harm), the police should be called using the  999  services.  

If you have a concern for a child but do not believe that they are in immediate danger, you can report to the Ministry of Interior - Child Protection Center by phoning their hotline  116111

Child Protection and Safeguarding legislation and government guidance say that Child Protection means:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcome

Safeguarding includes child protection, health care plans, health and safety, site security, safety on school trips, anti-bullying work and so much more.

ICS adheres to the following Child Protection laws and guidance:

  • The Child Rights Law 2016
  • Article 274 of the Penal Code Federal (3) of 1987, as amended
  • ADEK Private School Policy and Guidance 2014-2015
  • ADEK's 2016 issued Child Protection Policy
  • UAE Federal Law (3) on Child's Rights
  • UN Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989, ratified by the UAE 1996

The school has a suite of Child Protection policies that are reviewed regularly. These are:

  • ICT: Staff Acceptable Use Policy
  • ICT: Student Acceptable Use Policy
  • ICT: E-Safety Policy
  • ICT: Data Security Policy

  • Code of Conduct - Working with Children and Young People  
  • Recruitment Policy (Lettings)
  • Whistleblowing Policy
  • Clinic Policy

All staff receive annual Child Protection update training and are aware of the procedures for passing on concerns within school. 

Staff is trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to a named Child Protection Officer (CPO) within each school.

If any members of the school or local community have concerns about the welfare of a child in the school, please pass them on to the School Child Protection Team.
